Rafael chosen as the best player in september 2012

Brazilian defender Rafael has edged out Paul Scholes to win September's Player of the Month award on ManUtd.com.

Fans voted Rafael the Reds' star man following a string of top performances and a stunning goal at Anfield that gave United a first win on the ground in five years.

Almost half (48 per cent) of those who casted votes on ManUtd.com plumped for the right back, with Paul Scholes a close second with 44 per cent. Michael Carrick and Rio Ferdinand shared the remaining votes.

It's the first time Rafael, who has now made 97 appearances for the Reds, has received the monthly honour.
